UFO Rings in Macromedia Fireworks 4: Page 1
by Lars Østergaard

You have probably seen those popular rings around a logo countless times on the web, and its actually pretty easy to do with Fireworks. Before taking this tutorial, you should have some knowledge of Fireworks.

1. Start off by making a new image about 200x200 pixels, which should be enough space to work in. Create a letter of your choice. Make it big, about 150, and use the color black.
2.Grab a new color in the swatches  table. I used an orange.

Select the ellipse  tool. And drag out a shape like the one on the left.

3.The keep the circle selected. Copy it (Ctrl+c) and then paste it (Ctrl+v). Change the color of the duplicate circle to white. Then press Ctrl+Shift+T. This transforms the selection. Make sure the two boxes in the menu are checked, otherwise you won't get the same results. Insert 80% in the boxes, and press enter. Then nudge it to the top left hand corner, just so there is a small line left of the original circle.
